--Property
tax relief
o Must find real methods for tax relief without using "exemption
band aids"
o Understanding and control of spending would be a great place to start
o We must find ways to protect those long term home owners on fixed
incomes from being taxed out of their property!
--Roads
and transportation
o As a member of the House Transportation and Defense Committee,
I want to ensure the maximum amount of funding approved gets to our
roads.
o Must use federal GARVEE dollars quickly and wisely where they
are needed
o We need to use these GARVEE bond dollars while land prices are
still low. I don't advocate running any business on borrowed money,
but using this GARVEE money now makes fiscal long-term sense if it's
used wisely
o I support Mass transit investments in systems that are cost effective
and are sized for the user base population
--State
Spending Must be kept in Check!
o
Tax relief starts with understanding of spending needs and matching
those needs with resources of funding available, I worked hard to require
a performance review of our Transportation department to look for savings
before we increase any funding from the citizens.
o We must get better a better understanding of state spending to ensure
our tax dollars are being spent and invested wisely, I strongly support
Gov. Otter's effort for department Zero Based Budgeting.
--Prison
system
o We are moving into more of a system of "inconvenience"
rather than a punishment/rehab prison system. We need to find our way
back to making the prison system part of the deterrent of crime rather
than a vacation from it
o We need to invest in drug rehab and prevention
--Education
o Not enough education dollars allocated to the Dept of Education are
making it to the classrooms!
o All education employees should be working within a merit
based pay system, they hold their students to a merit system...
o I support School Choice: Charter Schools or Public. Competition
is what made our country strong, we need to apply that concept to our
education system.
